Photosynthesis Lab
Hypothesis: The difference between the black paper and the clear paper makes the intensity and wavelengths of light on photosynthesis. The clear paper has a shorter wavelength increasing the intensity. The black paper has larger wavelengths which decreases intensity.
Materials:
-calendula (plant)
- black paper
- clear paper (colored cellophane)
- test tubes
- pipettes
- Lugol's iodine
- petri dishes
- scissors
- tape
Procedure:
Day 1
Cover 3 leaves each with black paper and clear paper.
Day 2
Remove leaves from plant. Remove the chlorophyll by heating the leaves in hot Ethonol. Rinse the leaves and test for starch with iodine.
On the colored plant, cut the green off the red part of the leaves. Test each part the same way.

Results:
The numbers are a numeral value for the light and darkness in color of the leaves. Numbers range from 1-4
Analysis/ Conclusion: The black paper decreases the intensity and increases the wavelength. The leaves get no sunlight with the black paper. The clear paper increases the intensity and decreases the wavelength of light. The black paper slowed the process of photosynthesis which decreased the amount starch. The clear paper had a smaller wavelength and had a lower intensity than the untreated leaves.
Reflection: This lab was actually pretty hard because of all the troubles we went through. I felt like my group had no energy and did not want to put effort into the lab. The lab was also pretty confusing considering that there were many steps involved. The lab needed a lot of time management which my group did not do very well. Overall, this lab was confusing and consisted of people not putting any effort into it.
